Description

The DePaul Library information book.
Text reads: A State-of-the-Art-Library informed by tradition yet thoroughly modern, the new library will stand as an elegant affirmation of the university's commitment to advancing knowledge and enhancing life. The design, by Lohan Associates, is the product of a fruitful collaboration between the architects and the university. Richly articulated in brick and limestone, the four-story structure will harmonize with the dignified landscape of the surrounding streets. The traditional cloister, a dominant element of the exterior design, will provide the campus with a tranquil setting for study and reflection.
Inside, library patrons will encounter a peaceful environment for learning-completely equipped with modern information technology. Designed as a "smart building," the facility will include an underfloor duct raceway system for electrical and communications capability. This invisible system will allow the library to incorporate the newest automation without disturbing functions already in place. Also, the open plan of the building's 180,000 square feet is highly flexible and efficient. Scheduled to open in the fall of 1992, the library will be the university's first building fully planned for the 21st century.
Printed book, 27.8 x 27.8 cm.
